What makes me do the things I do? Sometimes our own behavior baffles us, especially when we know it isn't effective in a given situation. One of my greatest strengths is in drawing connections between events in your environment or past and how they shape your response to the present problem. We then work together to shape a new response that adequately addresses the problem. We absolutely are capable of change.
I spend the first session conducting a broad assessment to find out as much about you as I can, so that I can be of greatest help to you. We'll put on paper what you hope to accomplish in counseling; that way we have a direction to work toward. If you feel the first session was helpful, we schedule another. I ask questions and listen. I act as a sounding board, reality check, and help you work through what comes up. When I spot self-defeating beliefs, self-talk, or body language, I bring that out in the open for us to process and work through.
I serve clients from all over the South Carolina Midlands: primarily in Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Ballentine, and Chapin.
I began Hidden Creek Counseling in 2012 as a part-time pursuit and, in time, realized there isn't anything else I'd rather do professionally. After my wife and I completed our Total Money Makeover (ala Dave Ramsey) in 2017, I made Hidden Creek Counseling my full-time venture.
I'm a Class of '99 graduate from the USC College of Social Work and have previously worked at Three Rivers Behavioral Health and the SC Recovering Professional Program. For service, I am a commission member of the SC Bar Lawyers Helping Lawyers program, and a board member of the LRADAC Foundation. Outside of the office, you can find me at the gym, in the woods, or in the water. I also support recycling whenever possible.

For law students and practicing attorneys in South Carolina, if you have run into problems with stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance misuse, or been notified of a potential disciplinary action by the Committee on Character & Fitness, contact the LHL immediately at (803) 799-6653. There is no cost to you for the assessment if referred by LHL.
- Assessments for Administrative and Legal Proceedings
I conduct assessments for clients to determine if they have an alcohol or substance use disorder, and if so, make recommendations for appropriate care based on ASAM criteria. I coordinate laboratory testing to include in the report, if desired. Reports are submitted within 72 hours unless lab testing is included. Legal counsel may use this report as mitigation for clients with DUI, drug possession, or related cases.
